Dear friends,

Today, we will continue with Topic 5 on the relationship with siblings; where I will discuss the important ways on how to strengthen the relationship.

The relationship between siblings is important and expresses the love between one another. There are two types of siblings, siblings from your mother and father, another form is when you see someone like they are your brother or sister where together you try to build a healthy and honest family in society.

No doubt that the greatest responsibility in determining the nature of the relationship between siblings rests primarily with the parents, especially in the earlier stages where the personality of the children is formed and; their behaviour is refined. The ability to act justly and provide a balance between children to not favour one over the other can strengthen the relationship between siblings. It also teaches children to love one another and create an indispensable bond regardless of their age. The mutual respect between children - is a basic rule and children can gain this respect from parents and people who are in direct contact with them. For instance, the ability to bring siblings together for dinner and be there for each other in the most difficult circumstances.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, we have discussed some of the areas that dwell in our hearts, a reminder for us all and our societies. No matter what religion, ethnicity and colour are, the relationship between siblings is a necessity for everyone. Next week, we will begin with Topic 6: relationship with the grandparents.

Dear friends,

We are still discussing brotherhood, and today we will talk about the love of brothers for each other. As you know, love is important for brotherly relations and; it needs a lot of care.

Siblings are amongst the strongest relationships. Love, contentment and understanding between brothers are a source of sincere love and a constant affliction. You may lose a lot and find a brother as a mountain rampart with you. These ordeals can cause a crisis and lead to family disintegration.

Loyalty. Sitting with each other and sharing their concerns is part of love. Harmony is also achieved in love and altruism, giving greetings, exchanging gifts, mutual respect, cooperation, eating together, and having an understanding through friendly conversations.

Forgiveness and tolerance in the event of problems occurring between siblings and work towards solving them through understanding can create a comfortable atmosphere and a strong integrated family. Stubbornness should not be an answer where it can break the relationship between siblings and affect the parents.

Neither parents should compare siblings or treat differently and; this is common in society today and can sow distancing and instill hatred between children. It can also allow children to learn the wrong way and compare children leading to jealousy and hatred. Thus, we need to be careful as this is some of the mistakes parents make.

So, in brief, my friends, this is some of the methods or concepts of brotherly love to build a relationship on solidarity and everlasting love.

the duties of the brother towards his siblings

 Dear friends,

Last week, we began with the relationship between the brothers. Today, we would like to discuss some of the duties of the brother towards his brother(s) and sister(s) to observe and abide by for the sake of a cohesive family and build a better society.

Firstly, to give sincere advice because some brothers do not accept advice, and this causes the relationship to break.

Another duty is to help your sibling with money if he requires.

Thirdly, is to pray for your bother, Allah (The Most High) mentions in the Quran the following verses:

[Moses] said, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful."
[Quran: Surah Al-Araf, 7:151]

"And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in the tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me."
[Quran: Surah Al-Qassas, 28:34]

"[Allah] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses."
[Quran: Surah Al-Taha, 20:36]

Some of the Salaf (predecessors) may Allah mercy upon them said:
"No one is the greatest blessing to his brother, from Moses to Aaron, peace be upon them, for he intercedes for him until God made him a Prophet and Messenger (peace be upon him)".

Did you pray for your brothers and sisters?

Fourthly, is to forgive and seek an excuse for the mistake against his brother or sister.

Another duty of a brother towards his sister is to give advice, befriend her and take her hand. They are the second father figure who has the right to raise her, guide, support and sympathise with her and extend a helping hand for whatever she needs.

Next week, we aim to discuss the love between siblings.

Dear friends,

Today we will start on Topic 5: Relationship with siblings where I will discuss an interesting topic on the relationship of brothers.

Brothers are a strong tree that never breaks. A beautiful feeling is felt regardless of the distances involved and; the circumstances faced.

There is a positive interaction between a brother and his siblings and is inspired by our religion that deepens the ties and maintains them through the words of the Almighty Allah (The Most High) and the Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These guidances have given an insight of looking, contemplating and simplifying the relationship between a brother and his siblings for it is not verbal speech but a practical application.

A great example is the parable of Prophet Moses and his brother Prophet Aaron (peace be upon them) that represents the value of the relationship between siblings that cannot be compensated. Allah (The Most High) states:

"And appoint for me a minister from my family. Aaron, my brother. Increase through him my strength. And let him share my task. That we may exalt You much."

[Quran, Surah Taha 20: 29-34]

In this time and day, we can see there is a relationship between siblings about money and other benefits where the relationship ends as soon the benefit has been completed. This can be compared where the blood that flows in the veins has become water. A brother is the mercy of his brother, and the restrictions that bound them are loosened.

My friends, this social phenomenon has begun to appear on the surface disturbingly. Siblings are the blood that flows through the veins. Our Beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) states:

"Whoever desires an expansion in his sustenance and age, should keep good relations with his Kith and kin."
[Al Bukhari and Muslim]

Most of the issues that arose in today's society are jealousy of one another and interference of the wives, husbands, sons, daughters and siblings. One needs to know and understand that the brother is the second heart that beats in the presence of another person's body.
The help of the brother is support and safety. This is what must be taught to our children and society.

So my dear friends, please preserve brotherhood for the sake of strong and cohesive generations to come in where love and cooperation prevail.
Next week, we will go more in-depth on the duties of a brother towards his brother and sister.
